Fall home maintenance: Four things to do to protect your home
October 27, 2021Four reasons why you need an insurance agent
December 6, 2021We are all spending more time at home, especially in the last year or two. So, this year, when you are making New Year’s resolutions, why not resolve to make your home safer?
New Year’s resolutions are a great way to set and keep track of goals, and having a safer home should be at the top of your list in 2022.
So, here are some things you can do this year to make your home safer. Read on:
Check your security measures
Home security is a key part of home safety, so make a New Year’s Resolution to check your home’s locks and windows – and any other entry points. And if you don’t have one, consider investing in a security camera or a doorbell with a camera to keep your home safer.
Emergency supplies
Do you have a set of emergency supplies? This can be candles, flashlights, matches, bottled water and non-perishable food. And it can also be a place where you store things like passports and other important documents in case of a flood, fire or other emergency.
Smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors
Now is the time to make sure your home’s smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors are in good working order and have adequate power supplies. It’s also a good time to make sure you have a working fire extinguisher ready to go in case of an emergency.
Handle updates and repairs
If you haven’t done any home updates or repairs lately, this is the year to make that happen. Fix your broken windows. Repair your cracked walkway. Make sure those outdoor pipes are secured and not leaking or at risk of bursting.
By fixing these things now, you can avoid a larger issue down the road.
